Recreational Access Closure - Pass Main Trail & Rosseau Trail

The Pass Main Trail and the Lower and Upper Rosseau Trails are closed until further notice.  This is due to safety hazards related to rock blasting as part of road building in the adjacent area.

Gate closures & public firewood - Weekend of October 27-28

All gated and ungated properties are open for respectful recreation this upcoming weekend.

The gate hours for the Copper Canyon have been revised:  6am-4pm.

Personal cut firewood opportunities will be available by permit from approximately 8am-3pm at the following locations:
  • Extension/White Rapids Road;
  • Nanaimo Lakes Road 47;
  • Okeover (Powell River);
  • Buckley Bay gate;
  • Northwest Bay gate;
  • Shawnigan gate; and
  • Port Alberni (contact Fish and Game Club @ 250.724.4657 (Darlene) or 778.421.1947 (Donna or Russ)).

Gate closures & Public Firewood - Weekend of October 19-21

Similar to last weekend, the only gate closure is at Iron River due to active operations over the weekend.

Gate opening times for Saturday and Sunday are as follows:

Buckley Bay: 6am - 4pm
Northwest Bay: 7am - 5pm
Nanaimo River: 6am - 3pm
Copper Canyon: 7am - 5pm
Shawnigan: 6am - 4pm

Public firewood will be available at the following locations.  Safety gear must be presenting when purchasing the firewood permit - $30 cash per cord:

Buckley Bay gate
Northwest Bay gate
Shawnigan gate
Extension Road/White Rapids Road cutblock (same as late spring 2012)
Nanaimo Lakes Road (NLR) 47 (same as late spring 2012)

Closed gates: Iron River.

Northwest Bay: 7am - 5pm

All ungated properties are open for respectful recreation as well.

Fire closure - Weekend of October 5-8

With no significant change in the weather and ground conditions across Vancouver Island, our gated and un-gated areas around Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast will continue to be closed for recreational use this weekend.

One reason to perhaps look forward to more seasonable fall weather!

Have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend and please respect our request to stay out of the backcountry.

Recreation Access Closure - Cold Creek, Port Alberni

Effective October 1, Island Timberlands will begin modest road construction in the Cold Creek area of Port Alberni.  Community members and visitors alike are advised that this area is closed for respectful recreation on weekdays from 7am to 6pm.

This closure is to ensure safety of both workers and recreationalists alike and we thank you in advance for respecting it; please heed closure signs.
