Public Firewood - June 29 - July 1

With the recent precipitation, public firewood will be available at the following locations Saturaday through Monday.

Port Alberni:
Permits and directions to cutting locations can be obtained by contacting representatives of the Alberni Fish & Game Club at 250.724.4657 or 778.421.1947.

Northwest Bay: Gate opens at 7am and will close at 4:30pm. Permits are available at the gate with a map for the applicable cutting location(s).

Shawnigan area:
Gate opens at 7am and closes at 4:30pm. The gate into the operating area is at the end of Waters Road in the Cowichan Valley Regional District. Permits are available at the gate with directions provided to areas for firewood cutting.

Copper Canyon:
Gate opens at 7am and will close at 3:30pm.

We reserve the right to not sell permits to individuals not following safety expectations while cutting.

This road is closed effective immediately seven days a week.  This closure is expected to last to the end of July.

Recreation Access Closure - Alberni Inlet Trail

Phase One of the Alberni Inlet Trail will be closed weekdays at its southern extent for the installation of a foot bridge.  Please adhere to on-site signage and do not enter an active work zone.
This notice is active immediately and will be in place for approximately the next two weeks.

Gate Openings - June 2013

Unless otherwise posted, the following gates are scheduled to be open Saturday and Sunday for safe, responsible public access.  Drive to the road conditions, do not have campfires and report any chance of wildfire to the Province - *5555 on your mobile phone.

There are no firewood cutting opportunities at this time.

Iron River:

Gate opens at 8am and will close at 3:30pm.

Northwest Bay:

Gate opens at 7am and will close at 4:30pm.

Shawnigan:

Gate opens at 7am and closes at 4:30pm.

Copper Canyon:

Gate opens at 7am and will close at 3:30pm.

Recreation access closure - Labour Day Lake Trail & Mt. Moriarty Trail

Effective June 10, the trail circling Labour Day Lake and the trail to Mt. Moriarty will be closed weekdays for approximately five weeks.  These closures are required to facilitate safe forest operations for both the public and workers.

These trails will be open weekends for use unless posted otherwise.

Please respect these closures.

Public firewood - Weekend of June 8-9

Public firewood cutting is now closed for the summer season.  The program will commence in the fall.

Please refer back to this blog for updates if weather patterns permit a significant change in temperature and precipitation.
