Gate Openings and Public Firewood Opportunities - Weekend of May 3-4

The following gates are planned to be open for safe, responsible recreation this weekend:

Iron River:  Gate opens at 7am and will close at 3:30pm.  Firewood permits are not planned for availability at the gate.  Restricted access will be in place over the weekend.

Northwest Bay: Gate opens at 7am and will close at 4pm. Firewood permits available at the gate.

Copper Canyon: Gate opens at 7am and will close at 4pm. Firewood permits available at the gate.

Shawnigan (4890 Waters Road): Gate opens at 7am and closes at 4pm. Firewood permits available at the gate.

Nanaimo: The Vancouver Island Symphony will be fundraising through selling firewood permits out Nanaimo Lakes Road.  Approximately 4.5 km from the intersection of Wakesiah and Nanaimo Lakes Road, turn left and pass through a gate and travel approximately 5 km on logging roads to the site.

Firewood signs should be posted to assist in you finding the route. Firewood will be for sale from 8:00 am-3:30 pm on both days for $30 cash per cord (i.e. truck load).

Off-road vehicles are not permitted for use on Island Timberlands' property.

Gates and road systems accessing both Mt. Arrowsmith and Mt. Apps will be open this weekend.
The roads are not necessarily maintained at this time.

The following gates are planned to be open for safe, responsible recreation this weekend, including Good Friday:

Northwest Bay: Gate opens at 7am and will close at 4pm. Firewood permits available at the gate.

Copper Canyon: Gate opens at 7am and will close at 4pm. Firewood permits available at the gate.

Shawnigan (4890 Waters Road): Gate opens at 7am and closes at 4pm. Firewood permits available at the gate.

Nanaimo: The BC Boys Choir will be fundraising through selling firewood permits out Nanaimo Lakes Road.  Approximately 4.5 km from the intersection of Wakesiah and Nanaimo Lakes Road, turn left and pass through a gate and travel approximately 5 km on logging roads to the site.

Recreational Access Closure - TMR Main 8-km

Thistle Mines Road (TMR) Mainline is closed effective immediately at 8km.
This closure is expected to be in place weekdays and weekends for approximately seven weeks.

Our popular Nanaimo community firewood program kicks off for the Spring 2014 this weekend.
The Mountainview Elementary PAC will be fundraising through selling firewood permits at the site. Firewood will be for sale from 8am-3:30pm on both days for $30 cash per cord (truck load). The site is located up Nanaimo Lakes Road, approximately 4.5km from the intersection of Wakesiah and Nanaimo Lakes Road. You will turn left, pass through a gate and travel approximately 5km on logging roads to the site.
