Recreational Access Closure - Mt. Arrowsmith and area

With regard to the high and extreme forest fire danger ratings we are experiencing at this time, all trails in the Mt. Arrowsmith are considered to be closed to the public at this time.

This closure is anticipated to be in effect until the weather changes significantly.


Gate Closures for the Weekend of August 2-4

Due to high to extreme forest fire danger, all supervised gates will be closed for this weekend. 

This includes Iron River (Oyster), Northwest Bay, Buckley Bay, Chemainus (Copper Canyon) and Shawnigan.

All other gates are expected to be closed.

It is advised that individuals take time away from the backcountry as we look to move through this hot, dry spell safely.  Thank you for respecting this closure this long weekend.

Recreational Access Closure - Comox Main 8.4km

Effective July 29, 2014, Comox Main will be closed at 8.4km for the remainder of the week.
The road is expected to be open by Friday afternoon.

Recreational Access Closure - Father and Son Lake

Effective July 23, 2014, Father and Son and surrounding area is closed for recreational use weekdays.
This closure is necessary to allow for safe forestry-related activities in the area for workers and the visiting public.

This closure is expected to be in effect until mid-October.

Gate Openings for the Weekend of July 12-13

The following gates are planned to be open for safe, responsible recreation this weekend:

Iron River (on Cranberry Lane, approx. 7.5km south of Campbell River Airport exit): Gate opens at 7am and will close at 3:30pm.  Note not all road systems will be accessible due to forest operations continuing through the weekend.

Northwest Bay (1420 East Island Highway; 1.5km south of the first exit to Parksville): Gate opens at 7am and will close at 4pm.

Copper Canyon (west side of MacMillan Bloedel Haul Road, Chemainus): Gate opens at 7am and will close at 4pm.

Shawnigan (4890 Waters Road, Duncan): Gate opens at 7am and closes at 4pm.

Be prepared that gate times are prompt and if you are not out in time, your vehicle will be locked behind the gate for the evening.

The road system (Cameron Main - Pass Main) leading up to Mt. Arrowsmith Regional Park is planned to be open for the weekend.

The road systems accessing Mt. Apps and Mt. Clifton are expected to be closed for the weekend.

Gate Openings for the Weekend of July 5-6

The following gates are planned to be open for safe, responsible recreation this weekend:
