Gate openings and public firewood opportunities for the weekend of November 8-9 and Tuesday, November 11

The following gates are scheduled to be open this weekend and Remembrance Day for safe, responsible recreation.

Northwest Bay: Gate opens at 6am and closes at 4pm.  Public firewood will be available through this gate.

Nanaimo River:  Gate opens at 6am and closes at 3pm.  You must have a watershed permit to enter.  You can complete your watershed awareness training and receive a permit through the Nanaimo and District Fish and Game Protective Association.

Copper Canyon: Gate opens at 6am and closes at 4pm.  Public firewood will be available through this gate.

Shawnigan: Gate opens at 6am and closes at 5pm.  Public firewood will be available through this gate.

Iron River/Oyster River
: Gate opens at 6am and closes at 5pm.  There is no firewood available here.

Buckley Bay:  Gate opens at 6am and closes at 5pm.  Public firewood will be available through this gate.

Port Alberni:  Firewood permits are available through the Alberni Fish and Game Club.
Be prepared that gate times are prompt and if you are not out in time, your vehicle will be locked behind the gate for the evening.

To harvest firewood, cash for a permit is required at the gate (except in Port Alberni, permits available through Alberni Fish and Game Club).  Cost varies from $20-$30 per load.  You must show suitable safety gear to be issued a permit; this includes eye protection, hard hat, chainsaw pants and protective footwear.

The road system (Cameron Main - Pass Main) leading up to Mt. Arrowsmith Regional Park is planned to be open for the weekend. You can start to expect snow; please ensure you have a suitable vehicle if you are planning travel for higher elevation.

However, road systems accessing the Beaufort Range and areas within the Cameron Valley are not planned to have their gates opened.
