We have multiple locations for firewood cutting this Easter long weekend. Not every location is open for the four days - please read carefully.
In Nanoose Bay: Volunteer Nanaimo will be selling permits at our Northwest Bay gate off the Island Highway. This is a community fundraiser. They will be selling April 3-6.
In South Nanaimo: The Pauline Haarer PAC will be selling permits at our site off of Extension Road near the intersection with Virostko Road. This is a community fundraiser. They will be selling April 3-6.
In Chemainus: The Ladysmith Sportsman Club will be selling permits at our Copper Canyon gate off MacMillan Road. This is a community fundraiser. They will be selling April 3-4.
These sites will open for permit sales at 9am and sales will end at 3pm. Individuals will be allowed to continue cutting until 4pm.
A permit is valid for a truckload of firewood; each permit costs $30 cash.
In order to purchase a permit, you must demonstrate you have the correct safety gear with you as you travel in. This includes stable, closed-toe footwear, eye protection and chainsaw pants/chaps. Hearing protection is recommended.
You can travel in and out cutting up to three loads per day for personal use.
For non-fundraiser firewood:
In Shawnigan (Glenora): Firewood permits can be purchased at the Regional Visitor Information Center in Duncan, next to the Forest Discovery Center. Their hours fluctuate in the spring months; we advise you call ahead to make sure they are open when you plan to visit to purchase a permit - 1-888-303-3337. See the gate opening post for information on gate timing.
In Port Alberni: Firewood permits can be purchased at the Visitor Information Center at the east side of town. The hours can fluctuate so give them a call first at 250-724-6535 to see if they are open. They will provide a map to three areas open for firewood cutting close to town.
