Public Firewood Opportunities - Weekend of March 28-29

We have multiple locations for firewood cutting this upcoming weekend.  The first four are fundraisers for local community groups.

In Qualicum:  The Parksville Fish and Game Club will be selling permits off of Hilliers Road South, near the intersection with Highway 4.  This is at a recently harvested area visible from Highway 4 & Highway 19.

In Nanoose Bay: Football Nanaimo will be selling permits at our Northwest Bay gate off the Island Highway.

In South Nanaimo - two sites:
The Chase River Parent Advisory Committee will be selling permits off of McKeown Road in the Cinnabar area.

The VIPL soccer team will be selling permits at a new site off of Extension Road near the intersection with Virostko Road.

In Chemainus:  Ladysmith Search and Rescue will be selling permits at our Copper Canyon gate off MacMillan Road.

These sites will open for permit sales at 9am and sales will end at 3pm.  Individuals will be allowed to continue cutting until 4pm.

A permit is valid for a truckload of firewood; each permit costs $30 cash.

In order to purchase a permit, you must demonstrate you have the correct safety gear with you as you travel in.  This includes stable, closed-toe footwear, eye protection and chainsaw pants/chaps.  Hearing protection is recommended.

You can travel in and out cutting up to three loads per day for personal use.

In Shawnigan (Glenora):  Firewood permits can be purchased at the Visitor Information Center in Duncan, next to the Forest Discovery Center.  This permits are not associated with a community fundraiser.

  1. The Cowichan Regional Visitor Center (in Duncan) has variable hours of operation this spring. Give them a call to see when they are open when you have time to purchase your permit: 1-888-303-3337
