Gate Information for the Weekend of May 2-3

The following gates are scheduled to be open this weekend for safe, responsible recreation:

Northwest Bay (Nanoose Bay): The gate will open at 8am and will close promptly at 3pm.

Oyster/Iron River:  The gate is not scheduled to be open this weekend.

Copper Canyon (MacMillan Road, Chemainus): This gate will be open at 8am and closed at 5pm.

Shawnigan (Waters Road, Glenora): The gate will be open at 8am and closed at 5pm.

Port Alberni gates:  Expect Canal Main to be closed, while CX91 and CX165 gates will be open.
The connector to TimberWest property at CX21 is now permanently closed  with road deactivation in place.

Please note we only permit public use of our private forest lands on weekends when there is a significant reduction in safety risks in working and travelling around forestry operations/vehicles.

Gates will be locked promptly at their hours posted here.  If you are unable to leave the area after a gate has been locked, there will not be someone available to attend to unlock the gate.  Plan to be out by these posted times.

Public Firewood Cutting Opportunities for the Weekend of May 2-3

We have multiple locations for firewood cutting this weekend.  Each location is open Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 3pm, with permit sales closing at approximately 2pm.

In Errington/Qualicum:  The ROAMS program from Qualicum high school will be hosting at the harvest site off Hilliers Road South near its intersection with Highway 4.  This is a community fundraiser.

In Nanoose Bay: The Park Avenue Elementary PAC will be selling permits at our Northwest Bay gate off the Island Highway. This is a community fundraiser.

In South Nanaimo:  The Woodlands High School Athletics program will be selling permits off McKeown Road. This is a community fundraiser.

A permit is valid for a truckload of firewood; each permit costs $30 cash.  A trailer will cost an additional $30.

In order to purchase a permit, you must demonstrate you have the correct safety gear with you as you travel in.  This includes stable, closed-toe footwear, eye protection and chainsaw pants/chaps.  Hearing protection is recommended.  You will also be checked while cutting to ensure you are wearing your safety gear.

You can travel in and out cutting up to three loads per day for personal use.

For non-fundraiser firewood:

In Shawnigan (Glenora) & Chemainus (Copper Canyon):  Firewood permits can be purchased at the Cowichan Regional Visitor  Center in Duncan, next to the Forest Discovery Center.  Their hours fluctuate in the spring months; we advise you call ahead to make sure they are open when you plan to visit to purchase a permit - 1-888-303-3337.  See the gate opening post for information on gate timing.

In Port Alberni:  Firewood permits can be purchased at the Visitor Information Center at the east side of town. The hours can fluctuate so give them a call first at 250-724-6535 to see if they are open.  They will provide a map to three areas open for firewood cutting close to town.

Public Firewood Opportunities for the Weekend of April 25-26

We have multiple locations for firewood cutting this weekend.  Each location is open Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 3pm, with permit sales closing at approximately 2pm.

In Errington/Qualicum:  Update - No firewood sale in this area this weekend.

In Nanoose Bay: The Nanaimo Diamonds Fastball will be selling permits at our Northwest Bay gate off the Island Highway.  This is a community fundraiser.

In South Nanaimo:  TWO SITES:  1) The Heart of the Island Chorus will be selling permits off McKeown Road; and 2) the Air Cadets 205 group will be selling permits at our site off of Extension Road near the intersection with Virostko Road.  These are community fundraisers.

In Chemainus:  The Nanaimo Diamonds Fastball team will also be selling permits at this location.

Shawnigan (Waters Road, Glenora): The gate will be open at 8am and closed at 5pm.

In South Nanaimo:  TWO SITES:  1) The Nanaimo Youth Choir will be selling permits off McKeown Road; and 2) BC Wildlife Federation will be selling permits at our site off of Extension Road near the intersection with Virostko Road.  These are community fundraisers.

In Chemainus:  No sales at the Copper Canyon gate this weekend.

A permit is valid for a truckload of firewood; each permit costs $30 cash.

In order to purchase a permit, you must demonstrate you have the correct safety gear with you as you travel in.  This includes stable, closed-toe footwear, eye protection and chainsaw pants/chaps.  Hearing protection is recommended.  You will also be checked while cutting to ensure you are wearing your safety gear.

Northwest Bay (Nanoose Bay): The gate will open at 8am and will close promptly at 3pm.

Copper Canyon (MacMillan Road, Chemainus): The gate will open at 8am and will close promptly at 3pm.

Shawnigan (Waters Road, Glenora): The gate will be open by 10 am and will close promptly at 4 pm.

Port Alberni gates:  Expect Canal Main to be closed, while CX21, CX91 and CX165 gates will be open.

Please note we only permit public use of our private forest lands on weekends when there is a significant reduction in safety risks in working and travelling around forestry operations/vehicles.
Friday and Monday for this holiday weekend are scheduled days off for industrial traffic.

In Errington/Qualicum:  The Coal Tyee Elementary PAC will be selling permits on our property at a recently harvested area off Highway 4 at Hilliers Road South.

In Nanoose Bay: The Nanaimo Minor Baseball Association will be selling permits at our Northwest Bay gate off the Island Highway.  This is a community fundraiser.

In South Nanaimo:  TWO SITES:  1) The Wakesiah Gospel Chapel will be selling permits off McKeown Road; and 2) Mountainview Elementary PAC will be selling permits at our site off of Extension Road near the intersection with Virostko Road.  These are community fundraisers.

In Chemainus:  Ladysmith Search and Rescue will be selling permits at our Copper Canyon gate off MacMillan Road.  This is a community fundraiser.
