Public Firewood Opportunities for the Weekend of April 25-26

We have multiple locations for firewood cutting this weekend.  Each location is open Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 3pm, with permit sales closing at approximately 2pm.

In Errington/Qualicum:  Update - No firewood sale in this area this weekend.

In Nanoose Bay: The Nanaimo Diamonds Fastball will be selling permits at our Northwest Bay gate off the Island Highway.  This is a community fundraiser.

In South Nanaimo:  TWO SITES:  1) The Heart of the Island Chorus will be selling permits off McKeown Road; and 2) the Air Cadets 205 group will be selling permits at our site off of Extension Road near the intersection with Virostko Road.  These are community fundraisers.

In Chemainus:  The Nanaimo Diamonds Fastball team will also be selling permits at this location.

A permit is valid for a truckload of firewood; each permit costs $30 cash.  A trailer will cost an additional $30.

In order to purchase a permit, you must demonstrate you have the correct safety gear with you as you travel in.  This includes stable, closed-toe footwear, eye protection and chainsaw pants/chaps.  Hearing protection is recommended.  You will also be checked while cutting to ensure you are wearing your safety gear.

You can travel in and out cutting up to three loads per day for personal use.

For non-fundraiser firewood:

In Shawnigan (Glenora):  Firewood permits can be purchased at the Regional Visitor Information Center in Duncan, next to the Forest Discovery Center.  Their hours fluctuate in the spring months; we advise you call ahead to make sure they are open when you plan to visit to purchase a permit - 1-888-303-3337.  See the gate opening post for information on gate timing.

In Port Alberni:  Firewood permits can be purchased at the Visitor Information Center at the east side of town. The hours can fluctuate so give them a call first at 250-724-6535 to see if they are open.  They will provide a map to three areas open for firewood cutting close to town.
