Recreational Access Closure - Chemainus Main 22km

Chemainus Main will be blocked at 22km with a gate, seven days a week, until the end of the year.
This closure is effective September 29.

This restriction is being put in place to facilitate safe forest operations in the area.

  1. will the nanaimo river camp side of the chemainus main be open or is it closed as well?

  2. All areas accessed above 22km, which is before where the road crosses Copper Canyon, are closed.

The Jump Lake area is open weekends only for hunting season; to access you must sign in and have a watershed permit issued by the Nanaimo Fish and Game Protective Association, Island Timberlands, or the City.

  3. So the closed area is from the start of chemanius main (beside jump lake) up to the gate to copper canyon?

  4. Chemainus Main is not adjacent to Jump Lake. Chemainus Main starts off MacMillan Haul Road in Chemainus. This road is blocked at 22km.

  5. Might be my ignorance showing, if so I apologize for that, I am basing my information on the Backroads map book and this site.

It is confusing to me that it says Copper Canyon main gate is open but this post says Chemainus Main is closed at 22km.

Are there two roads: Copper Canyon and Chemainus?

  6. These two roads are the same. The 22km point is when the road accesses mostly our private land instead of Crown land, or other private land areas.

  7. The gate is listed as open yet the main is closed this morning?

  8. Some gates were closed today without notice due to the higher winds and rain. We reserve the right you close access to our property without notice; today's situation is an example.
