Access Expectations on Island Timberlands' private managed forest land

We regularly receive numerous inquiries about public access and use of our private managed forest lands.  Here are some key points you should be aware of:

  • Island Timberlands' provides access to areas of our private managed forest land on weekends for respectful recreational use.
  • Access is not permitted on weekdays.
  • Firewood is available for harvest for a small fee.  Please see blog postings specific to firewood.
  • Off road vehicles, including ATVs, UTVs, buggies, and side-by-sides are not permitted on our property.
  • Registered, licensed and insured road capable motorbikes are permitted on our logging roads only.  There is no use permitted off our logging roads.
  • We have roaming security patrol that can clarify questions you have if you see them out and about, seven days a week.  They will issue violation notices if you are found not to be respecting our access expectations.  This may include towing of your vehicle.

For more information, please review our Access Guide Pamphlet for our Industrial Roads.

Firewood Permit Sales - UPDATE

Firewood permit sales are being temporarily suspended through this week as we complete some updates to our online permit process to make it more clear for those interested in purchasing a permit.

Permits are expected to be available for sale by the end of the week in time for weekend firewood harvesting.

We have received many comments about our new firewood permitting process.  The payment process is secure for use with your credit card.

Basic troubleshooting:
If you have completed all the forms correctly using a valid credit card, you should receive two emails within a minute of completing the process.  One email will be from Island Timberlands with your permit, the firewood area map, and our rules for harvesting firewood.
Another email will be from PayPal indicating the transaction was successful and you've paid $20 for your permit.  If you do not receive both emails, it is very likely the transaction was not successful.  In this scenario, we suggest  registering with PayPal if you were unsuccessful using your credit card as a guest of PayPal.  If you have a PayPal account and the payment was unsuccessful, try a different credit card.

Thank you for your patience as we work to simply this process for all those involved.
