Access Information for the Weekend of February 27-28

The following gates and major roads are expected to be open this weekend.
We permit access on weekends only.  Do not expect any additional gates to be opened.
  • Copper Canyon:  Open 8am / close 4pm
  • Northwest Bay:  Open 8am / close 4pm
  • Cameron Main : Open
  • Cameron Connector:  Open
  • Ash Main, Comox Main, Canal Main:  Open 
  • Pass Main (access to Mt. Arrowsmith):  Open
  • Buckley Bay:  Closed
  • Oyster River: Closed
  • Shawnigan:  Closed







These gates will be closed promptly at these posted times.  You will be locked in for the night if you do not plan your exit time accordingly.

All other gates not listed may or may not be open, and may be closed at any time.

If you enter with your vehicle you risk being locked in; we will not send staff out to open any gate for you after hours, or if it is not posted to be open.  You may have to pay a tow truck to have your vehicle removed.





Firewood harvesting for personal use is available; please review the firewood specific blog post for the weekend.



No fires, no camping, and no off-road vehicles (i.e. ATVs, UTVs, buggies or side-by-sides) are authorized on our private property.



Please also note all recreational access closures for regional trails.

Firewood Opportunities for the Weekend of February 27-28

Two areas are open for firewood for this weekend: Northwest Bay and Port Alberni (Cameron and Ash).  For those interested, there is a new area available for the Northwest Bay firewood in the Qualicum region off Ashling Road.









Permits for these areas are available online at our website or at two Tourist Information Centers - Port Alberni and Parksville, for firewood harvesting in their respective areas.


You must carry your permit with you at all times.  If you are stopped without a permit, you will have to dump your load.
  • For Port Alberni area firewood, go to the Port Alberni Visitor Center at 2533 Port Alberni Highway; and
  • For Northwest Bay area firewood, go to the Parksville Visitor Center at 1275 East Island Highway.
There is no firewood available in any other area at this time.



Safety Equipment Required:
Gear includes protective footwear, eye protection, ear protection, chainsaw pads/pants and gloves.

Safety gear is mandatory while cutting; you will not be sold a firewood permit if you cannot present your safety gear before you enter the site and privileges will be revoked if you do not wear it while cutting.

Note Cameron Mainline is expected to open within a couple weeks for weekend use.

Firewood Opportunities for the Weekend of February 20-21


Two areas are open for firewood for this weekend:  Northwest Bay and Port Alberni (Cameron and Ash).  For those interested, there is a new area available for the Northwest Bay firewood. 



Permits for these two areas are available online at our website or at the two respective Tourist Information Centers - Port Alberni and Parksville.  You must carry your permit with you at all times.  If you are stopped without a permit, you will have to dump your load.
  • For Port Alberni area firewood, go to the Port Alberni Visitor Center at 2533 Port Alberni Highway; and
  • For Northwest Bay area firewood, go to the Parksville Visitor Center at 1275 East Island Highway.
There is no firewood available in any other area at this time.  We expect another area to open in the Qualicum Bay area in the next couple weeks.

Three areas are open for firewood for this weekend:  Northwest Bay, Nanaimo and Port Alberni (Cameron and Ash).

Our Northwest Bay and Port Alberni areas are open for firewood this coming weekend, including the holiday Monday.

Permits for these two areas are available online at our website or at the two respective Tourist Information Centers - Port Alberni and Parksville.  You must carry your permit with you at all times.  If you are stopped without a permit, you will have to dump your load.

Recreational Access Closure - Rollercoaster Trail (Nanaimo)

This trail in the Nanaimo Lakes area is closed effective February 1 for weekdays.

The closure is expected to last until the end of March.  It is required to ensure safe forest operations in the area.
