Access Information for the Weekend of February 20-21


The following gates are expected to be open this weekend.
We permit access on weekends only.  Do not expect any additional gates to be opened.
  • Copper Canyon:  Open 8am / close 4pm
  • Northwest Bay:  Open 8am / close 4pm
  • Cameron Main : Open 0km-8km; Closed at 8km
  • Cameron Connector:  Open
  • Ash Main, Comox Main, Canal Main:  Open 
  • Pass Main (access to Mt. Arrowsmith):  Closed
  • Buckley Bay:  Closed
  • Oyster River: Closed
  • Shawnigan:  Closed
Note Cameron Mainline is expected to open within a couple weeks for weekend use.





These gates will be closed promptly at these posted times.  You will be locked in for the night if you do not plan your exit time accordingly.

All other gates not listed may or may not be open, and may be closed at any time.

If you enter with your vehicle you risk being locked in; we will not send staff out to open any gate for you after hours, or if it is not posted to be open.  You may have to pay a tow truck to have your vehicle removed.



Firewood harvesting for personal use is available; please review the firewood specific blog post for the weekend.



No fires, no camping, and no off-road vehicles (i.e. ATVs, UTVs, buggies or side-by-sides) are authorized on our private property.

Please also note all recreational access closures for regional trails.

  1. Question: Where is the 8km mark on the Cameron Main? Can you drive up to the junction with Pass Main (so I can walk up to Arrowsmith from there)?

  2. The road is closed at 8km, essentially where the Cameron Connector (road off of the Alberni hump) intersects with the mainline.

    There is no public access authorized past that point at this time.

  3. Is the south shawnigan gate off waters Rd I. Duncan open for access into the lakes for fishing?

  4. The Shawnigan gate, located off Waters Road, is closed to the public at this time. It is expected to open again in a month or two.

  5. Is there any merit behind the rumor I heard of the copper canyon gate being moved to the far side of the firing range?

  6. Reports from the web have someone driving up the Cameron Mainline and pass main to mt arrowsmith this past Saturday...Is the Cameron Mainline and Pass Main open again?

  8. Our Cameron Mainline will be re-opened to the public for weekend use for this upcoming weekend - Feb 27-28.

  9. For our gate entering the Chemainus River area, we have no immediate plans to move a gate near the firing range.
