Firewood Opportunities for the Weekend March 12th and 13th

Four areas are open for firewood for this weekend: Northwest Bay, Port Alberni (Cameron and Ash), Buckley Bay and Spider Lake (End of Ashling Road). Note that Buckley Bay will be open at 9:00am and will close at 3:00pm.  Spider Lake will be open at 8:30am and close at 3:30pm.
Permits for these areas are available online at our website or at two Tourist Information Centers - Port Alberni and Parksville, for firewood harvesting in their respective areas.

You must carry your permit with you at all times.  If you are stopped without a permit, you will have to dump your load. NOTE: EFECTIVE THIS WEEKEND firewood pricing is changing from $20 to $30.
  • For Port Alberni (Cameron and Ash) area firewood, go to the Port Alberni Visitor Center at 2533 Port Alberni Highway; and
  • For Northwest Bay and Spider Lake area firewood, go to the Parksville Visitor Center at 1275 East Island Highway.
There is no firewood available in any other area at this time.

Safety Equipment Required:
Gear includes protective footwear, eye protection, ear protection, chainsaw pads/pants and gloves.

Safety gear is mandatory while cutting firewood; you will not be permitted to cut firewood if you cannot present your safety equipment.  Permits and Firewood privileges will be revoked if you do not have the required safety gear and/or you are found to be cutting wood without it.  Expect to be asked for your permit and to provide an inspection of your safety equipment.  There are no exceptions to these requirements.

Please review gate timing on the 'Access Information' blog post for this weekend to ensure you are not too early or too late to get your firewood

  1. Why did the price increase?

  2. Increased associated costs including, but not limited to, administration and management.
