***Notice to our Public Firewood Cutters***

“Due to the technical difficulties we are currently experiencing with the online firewood permit system, we are shutting the system down for maintenance and repairs until further notice. Please visit our partners at the Port Alberni, Parksville, and Cowichan Regional Visitor Centres to purchase weekend firewood permits.”

 Firewood Opportunities for the Weekend of Nov 26th and 27th

There will be a firewood fundraiser this weekend, at the NLR 47 gate (Nanaimo Lakes Road).
 
You must carry your valid permit with you at all times.

Safety equipment requirements include chainsaw pants, sturdy work boots, eye protection and ear protection.

Firewood is for personal use only and not to be sold.

There will be random checks for Permits and Safety Equipment.  If you do not have a permit or adequate safety equipment our guards will ask you to leave the property and your firewood will be confiscated.   

There are now 10 areas open for firewood this weekend.  They are:

Check the "Access" section of this blog (below) for gate time openings and closings.

Weather Notice: There are snow conditions in some areas that may or may not be reflected by gate closures.  Access areas with caution.


The following openings/closures are in effect for this weekend:

  • Loon Lake: Open
  • Horne Lake North (HLN 200): CLOSED
  • Ash Main: Open
  • Comox Main: Open
  • Museum Main: Open
  • Northwest Bay:  Open 6:00 AM - Closed 4:00 PM 
  • Chemainus Main (Copper Canyon):  Closed On Saturday at 0 km. Open on Sunday at 6:00 AM - Closed at 4:00 PM
  • Mines Road: Open 7:00 AM - Closed 1:30 PM
  • Glenora (Shawnigan):  Closed On Saturday at 0 km. Open on Sunday at 6:00 AM - Closed at 4:00 PM
  • Buckley Bay:  Open 6:00 AM - Closed 2:00 PM
  • Ashling Road (Spider Lake): Open 8:00 AM - Closed 4:00 PM
  • Oyster River:  Open 6:00 AM - Closed 2:00 PM
    • ***Oyster 16.5 KM and Oyster 1100 are closed due to snow**
  • Northwest Bay:  Open 6:00 AM - Closed 4:00 PM
  • Nanaimo River Camp:  Closed On Saturday. Open 6:00 AM - Closed 3:00 PM Sunday

Please note, on weekdays in cases where access is closed, gates may still be open to facilitate access by operational equipment and vehicles.  Note any open gates may be closed at any time.

Unauthorized Access


Unless otherwise noted in this blog, all of Island Timberlands' Property is closed to the public during the week, this includes hunting.  Unauthorized access, at any time, will not be tolerated and mobile Security patrols are active 24/7 to enforce this policy.  

Off-Roading is not permitted on Island Timberlands Property.  Please respect the environment and keep your vehicles on the main travelled roads at all times.


No fires, camping, target practice/shooting or off-road vehicles (i.e. ATVs, UTVs, buggies or side-by-sides)  are permitted on our property, unless authorized by Island Timberlands.



Don't let the few Criminals ruin access for everyone! If you see any suspicious activities on our lands you can report them!  Do not put yourself in an unsafe situation or confrontation.

Access Information for the Weekend of November 19th and 20th


Increasing vandalism to our gates, access points and equipment affects everyone.  Don't let the few Criminals ruin access for everyone.  If you see someone damaging a gate/lock or driving around a gate - report them!  To report irresponsible behaviour call 1-250-830-8343 or 1-800-663-5555

***Notice - There have been incidents where people have been cutting firewood in non-authorized areas.  These areas may be allocated for our Commercial Firewood Cutters and the Public is not permitted to cut firewood in these areas.  Please be respectful to our Commercial Firewood cutters and only cut firewood in the areas outlined below.
