Would you be able to explain why the gate at the 1100 and 16.5 km are locked. There is a lot of area back there to hunt. I was out hunting on saturday and felt a little unsafe with the amount of hunters limited to the open areas. Having these areas open would sure spread the hunters. Also is there any chance to extend the gate hours. I just feel if you where to harvest an animal in the afternoon it would be rushed to make the gate. As it stands vehicles are driving too fast to make the gate closure. I have heard a rummor the reason the other areas are locked ic it is off limits to guide
Thanks for takinh the time to respond

  2. Currently the gates at 1100 and 16.5 km are closed to the public because we are active behind these gates and we need to ensure our assets are secured and everyone is safe. It's unfortunate that there are still a few bad apples out there that steal and vandalize equipment - because it does impact access to others.
We do have concerns about the amount of vehicles in the area at any given time, and an option we will consider is limiting the amount of vehicles we let in. This would help to avoid congestion and address your safety concern.
We are working to extend the gate opening times, but this is a work in progress and the times will not change for this hunting season.
I have also heard the rumour that these gates (1100 and 16.5 km) are being locked to ensure exclusive guiding privileges. Although I cannot speak to past practices, I can tell you that this is not the case for 2016, and is not something that Island Timberlands has formally considered. Island Timberlands does have access agreements with many users including Outfitter Guides. At the current time, no users are given exclusive access to any (or part) of our lands.
