Firewood Opportunities
Due to the increased risk of wildfire on Vancouver Island, all firewood opportunities on Island Timberlands forest lands are closed until further notice. Please check back regularly for updates.

*A reminder that overnight camping and fires are not permitted on Island Timberlands private lands.

* Unless authorized by Island Timberlands, access is closed to the public on weekdays.


UPDATE Log Train Trail Closure (Cold Creek) 
Starting May 14, 2018 for approx. 2 months, trails and roads between the Candy Store and the power lines will be closed weekdays until 5pm due to road building and blasting.

Recreational Access Opportunities

Last Updated May 12, 2018
  • UPDATED Cameron Mail will be closed at 25km this weekend due to harvesting activity.
  • UPDATED Alberni Valley Inlet Trail -  harvesting in this area is now complete. The South parking lot near the Franklin Forest Products Mill and the Alberni Trail are now both accessible. Use caution accessing the Bell Bay parking lot during the week as large trucks are traveling to and from the mill.
  • UPDATED Log Train Trail Closure (Cold Creek) - starting May 14 for approx. two months, trails and roads between the Candy Store and the power lines will be closed weekdays until 5pm due to road building and blasting.

Firewood Opportunities 
May 12-13, 2018
* Note: Firewood is for personal use only and is not to be sold 
  • Port Alberni - On May 12-13, purchase firewood cutting permits for our Franklin River Road site from volunteer fundraising groups at the gate on the left, just past Anderson Road. 
  • Cowichan/Shawnigan - Starting the weekend of May 12-13, there will be a firewood opening on the M-Mainline @ 1km. Permits are available at the Cowichan Visitors Center. Access will be through the Glenora gate from 8am-6pm.

Safety
  • Safety Equipment Requirements: Chainsaw pants, sturdy work boots, eye and ear protection. 
  • There will be random checks for permits and safety equipment. If you do not have both, your firewood may be confiscated and you will be asked to leave the property. Non-compliance may result in additional penalties and restrictions. 
  • Please respect commercial firewood cutters and only cut firewood in permitted areas.
